Likely a sign of things to come, Amazon has started using Twitter to send out information on “deals”. There are about 2500 followers to AmazonDeals as of today.

This will certainly be noticed by many other retailers. It’s interesting to note that without limited privacy features, anybody with a Twitter account can see who is following amazondeals; this is like giving away valuable user information.

Why isn’t twitter used by everybody? I think one of the reasons is that it doesn’t do group very well.

Sure there are many twitter fanatics who use it enthusiastically and innovatively. But we all reach a point that we want to twitter in groups. “Group” is the essence of social media. Twitter needs group features to truly differentiate from SMS. That’s how we had tags, hashtags, none worked that well. Tweme is down, again. Surely we need something better!

I have to admit I’m not much of a “social media” guy (my friend count on Facebook finally broke single digit, thanks to our class). I heard of Twitter when it first came out, signed up. After announcing to the world some earth-shattering events like “I ate lunch”, I figured I was done with it. No use, no fun. Nobody around me care for it.

The class has made me take a second look at it. In just a few days, I have found it interesting enough. I’d love to hear your opinions.
