Have also been working with local non-profits on their social media strategy, and I would just like to remind us all that, in reality, not every organization can also be a media company. Time, budget and mission limit the resources which can be dedicated to video projects. In conversation, several groups actually laugh at the idea that "there is no excuse for not having a video strategy."

Yes, it is the future, yes it can be powerful, but outside our social media bubble, it can be very intimidating. Hopefully, MCDM students work to help increase the access and comfort of all groups as we move towards "the video boom."

Love the video! I stumbled across this post while reflecting on the importance of video for my Social Production class. Our project proposal was a video for a local non-profit. This is a great summary on the importance of online video and I'll definitely be showing it to our client.

Great post! And very interesting video work, I like it!

As a current MCDM student, I am increasingly realizing the importance of online video. I totally agree with your point: everyone should have a video strategy. I think the audience of web video is not just the consumer, but also the producer. In this sense, online video is sort of the bridge to connect these two.
BTW, there are some terms which I am not familiar with their cultural background, but I did search them all. :^)

Thanks, Harry! Sometimes it's a bit of an uphill battle to get people to understand the importance of video strategy. I think lots of people think that everything has to be amateur UGC or big-money Hollywood polish, with little inbetween. Even though Cheezburger's video content is almost entirely UGC (which is to be celebrated, and totally effective in it's own right), it says a lot about Huh's foresight to see that there is a useful middle ground emerging now, too. You get that, he gets that, and the MCDM preaches it!

Nice work, Matt, and a great distillation of the current scene around new media production and distribution. I totally agree - the barriers to entry are low, the ability of producers in this genre of communication is rising exponentially, and the audience is ready to soak up stories told in multimedia. Definitely a bookmark post for me, and something to share widely!
