If the user understands WHY the advertisement is so well targeted to them, then it may be less &quot;creepy.&quot;

We should call this &quot;smart&quot; advertising. And if it&#039;s done well, then it can become a type of information feed that we can make do work for us. The better we communicate ourselves online, maybe the better we can be advertised too. Advertising could become a free service, but don&#039;t tell advertisers that ;)

		<description>For months I kept getting ads for a horse-boarding company and saddle shops on my Facebook profile. I finally figured out that it was probably because I had become a fan of indie band &quot;Band of Horses&quot; (I think.)   Also, because I am a certain demographic (female, 40) I used to get a LOT of weight-loss and anti-wrinkle product ads. I got these ads despite also being a fan of The Daily Show, brownies, Neil Patrick Harris, Woodland Park Zoo, Pet Society, The Watchmen and The University of Washington (which, if an advertiser only had this information about me, might put me in a younger demographic.)

The big plus with FB advertising for users is that you are given some control. By  relentlessly &quot;disliking&quot; / giving a thumbs-down on certain ads and &quot;liking&quot; certain other ones, you can receive ads that you like, or ones that you find more relevant... or at least ones that you can more easily ignore. :)</description>
