TwitterFall: Twitter on crack, on roller-skates… in a jumpsuit

I remember when first hearing about Twitter, someone explaining the concept as “Text Messaging on steroids”. As an observer more of a player in the Tweet-Mania, I came across this latest Twitter Tool: the TwitterFall, presented by a journalist as: “… Twitter on crack, on roller-skates… in a jumpsuit.”

TwitterFall is a very efficient tool to track instant news and trends via Twitter, but caution, it should be used with “moderation as it is highly addictive”. Since I discovered TwitterFall, I’ve had a hard time pulling myself away from it, hypnotized by the constant free fall of tweets on my screen.

TwitterFall is two month old, offspring of two 19-year old students at York University in the UK, it enables you to track and filter tweets by keywords, topics, latest trends, languages, Twitterers, and even location. TwitterFall has a geolocation tool built-in the site that helps you narrow tweets within a set radius or a particular location.

In addition, you can Pause, Flush and Manage the Speed of the fall; directly login into your twitter account and instantly comment/ reply to a tweet in the fall.

Another cool feature is the ability to bookmark and share your very own customized TwitterFall, which you can setup and adjust to your taste, playing with the speed and animation of the fall, the color and size of the text, and different settings as Retweets, styles and themes.

Nearly two month after its creation, TwitterFall already has thousands of loyal users, among which journalists, newspapers and even businesses that find in this new application a perfect way to track news in real time in different countries, or even monitor instantly customer responses towards a specific brand.

With the propagation of all this different application in the Twitterverse (TweetDeck, Twhirl, Ping.fm, Twitter Tools, Tweetburner, GroupTweet, Twittercal, Twitter Timer, Tweetbeep, Qwitter, TweetLater), aiming to improve our Twittersperience, one can wonder if the Tweet-Mania is just a trendy phase or a rising new model of communication and marketing that will last.
