Shortcovers – Another Kindle?

Happened to know that Shortcovers(http://www.shortcovers.com/) which is owned by Canada’s biggest booksellers, Indigo Books&Music(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigo_Books_and_Music), is about to introduce electronic book application which can be used in iphone. Other than more than 50,000 books, Shortcovers will provide news, journals, instant messages and blog service.

Almost the same as Amazon’s Kindle, Shortcovers is going to provide the first chapter of any book to the reader.  Then the reader will normally have two options: Buy one chapter at a time which might cost 99 cents, or buy the whole book which might cost 10-20 dollars. Otherwise, readers might get paper copy of certain books.
I can’t wait to see the fight between Kindle and Shortcovers. What do you think?

Oooh. This is brilliant. Talk about luring you in, little by little… and maybe even make more money from you in the end.

I was a ‘Twilight’ skeptic when I first started reading the series. Had I been using Shortcovers, they would have discovered a bottomless pit in my pocket.

I would definitely use Shortcovers, because of these reasons:
    1. Mobility
    2. Ease of access
    3. Trial Method (I’m an avid reader, but if you don’t grab my attention within the first few chapter, you’ve already wasted my money.)

Here comes the new market disruptor! The entrant take advantage of the consumer foundation built by the incumbent and provides even better services, which is a big threaten to the incumbent. However, if the incumbent responses quickly and leverages its abundant resources smartly, the entrant will suffer. All in all, it will be a brutal battle.

I love competition! Especially if it is between two brands, where I am the consumer…I am really curious about these wireless reading devices and looking forward to try one.

  4. Appreciation for this infortmoain is over 9000—thank you!
