Slingmedia going Mainstream

Slingmedia is known as the maker of cool gadgets like Slingbox, which allows viewing and control of TV from the Internet. Slingmedia has made a couple of moves lately that may have more impact on mainstream media.

Slingcatcher – this is a new device that supports the convergence of online video and TV, basically allowing easy viewing of youTube or anything online on big screen TV. Think of xBox and iTv as competitors.

Sling.com – this is a media site with TV shows and other professionally produced content, it is Ad supported. Think hulu. Slingmedia’s strength is its synergy with hardware and software platform. For example, you can download a mobile client and watch from a 3G device. Slingmedia’s streaming technology works quite well to deliver HD contents.

Slingmedia seems to be making moves from gadget space to media space. It’s a company to watch in 2009.
