Flip The Media Editor Endorses Obama

I like to keep a politically neutral stance in public, despite my historic “cowboy conservatism.”  And as a Canadian, I can’t even vote in next week’s election.  However, as MCDM Director, and social media/storytelling Proponent-in-Chief, I agree with FTM’s own Adriana Gil Miner (another non-citizen for now) that all that we cherish here will thrive, or potentially dive depending on Barack Obama’s fortunes next Tuesday.

He’s Advertising Age’s “Marketer of the Year,” who has run a remarkable social media campaign.  Obama’s bottom-up fundraising campaign (thanks largely to mybarackobama.com) potentially upends the balance of power to which we have become so accustomed (lobbyists + big donors + TV ads).

As we always like to point out in the MCDM, no social media offensive can truly succeed without a well-oiled organization, backing up the digital with boots-on-the-ground.  And we know that “community organizing” may be Obama’s greatest strength as a manager.

So politics aside, social media at the forefront, we endorse Barack Obama as America’s first social media President.  “Spread the wealth (of networks)!”

[Note: MCDM faculty -- and politics expert -- Kathy Gill, remains officially neutral, especially as she'll be an on-air analyst throughout Northwest Cable News's election coverage.]

I am not voting as well (non-citizen) and I do support you :) I loved the America’s first social media President title.

As a voting citizen, I’d like to take this moment to thank Al Gore for inventing the Internet.

  3. The Obama campaign has rung the social media bell on so many levels that it will be really hard for another campaign to duplicate in the future – remember John Lennon’s quote “you can’t reheat a souffle.” with reference to a Beatles reunion?

Isn’t the internet something Sarah Palin can see out her window?

I add my non-citizen endorsement to the crowd’s voice and take a moment here to remind the citizens amongst you that if NASA astronauts took the time to vote from “space”, that you too can make an effort to enjoy represetational democracy with your morning latte.

I didn’t start paying attention to Barack Obama until a friend of mine (white guy from New Jersey, if that matters) posted an Obama video on his blog.

I am in awe of Obama’s use of social media to spread his message. And should he win the election, I hope that he will continue to use these tools to inform and motivate the masses during his presidency. Yes we can!

As a voting citizen and Hispanic, I’m so glad that Obama has giving us the opportunity to everyone to have a “voice”. His campaign really showed that this is the era of the democratization of information.

Do I have to be a non-citizen to have an opinion?
